The Local Area

Enjoy the peace and quiet of the beautiful Somerset countryside whilst being on the coast. Sand Bay is an ideal base for exploring the area – Cheddar Gorge, the Cathedral City of Wells, Bath, Bristol, Taunton, Bridgewater and Glastonbury are all nearby.

There are fantastic views across the Channel estuary to South Wales especially in the evening.  In the better weather watch the beautiful sunsets whilst sitting on one of the many benches along the sea front.

Approximately 20 minutes’ stroll from the bungalow is the base of Sand Point, an extension of the Mendip Hills and run by the National Trust. There is a chargeable car park at the base. A 3-mile circular coastal walk provides beautiful views of the Bristol Channel up to the Severn bridges.

Sand Bay is attached to the village of Kewstoke with the Commodore Hotel at the far end of the beach approximately 20 minutes’ stroll along the sea front or a few minutes’ drive to their large car park. They do very nice food and a daily carvery which we can recommend. Dogs are allowed in the bar where food is served and there is also a restaurant.  A little further on is the dog friendly New Castle Restaurant which provides stunning views of Sand Bay along with very nice food.

Sand Bay Bar is a dog friendly licensed fish and chip restaurant approximately 18 minutes stroll along the sea front and guests have always enjoyed visiting there.

Sand Bay tea rooms are a 5-6 minute stroll from the bungalow and open every day except Mondays unless the weather is good. There is also a local shop and pub in the village plus an ice cream kiosk by the bus terminal.

Weston-Super-Mare has many special events and festivals throughout the year including the Air Festival with the Red Arrows; Annual Carnival with numerous floats; Beach Race and the very popular Sand Sculpture Festival.
